OurTowne Highlighting the South Hills of Pittsburgh

Welcome to OurTowne.org, glad you could stop by. I started OurTowne.org shortly after I moved to the South Hills from the North Hills in '98. As any long time Pittsburgh resident can tell you, "a move like that, is like moving to a different city". Yes Pittsburgh has always been a twin city, the North Hills and the South Hills, "People don't cross those rivers", unless they really have to.

Like any new resident I had to locate a whole new list of goods and services that may be needed in the future. I have always made it my policy to try to patronize local businesses. To that end I started to ask neighbors for recommendations when the need arose. To my surprise the South Hills has many fine small businesses, covering the entire range of goods and services.

So I decided to create this web site, a web site that highlights these privately owned business. You may ask, Why am I doing this? Taking the time and bearing the cost of starting the site and it's maintenance.

Its very simple, I believe we should support the entrepreneurial spirit of these privately owned businesses , for they are not just business owners, they are also our neighbors.

Ourtowne started out as just covering the South Hills but has expanded to cover Western Pennsylvania and the Panhandle of West Virginia.
